The FIA World Council approved power limitation for the LMP1 cars

The WMSC approved the Endurance Commission’s proposal to limit the releasable power for energy recovery systems in LMP1 cars.

The FIA World Council, which met on Wednesday (30), announced new measures for the World Endurance. Among the novelties, the highlight is the power limitation for the LMP1 prototypes, the main category of the WEC.

The WMSC approved the Endurance Commission’s proposal to limit the releasable power for energy recovery systems in LMP1 cars on safety grounds, to avoid the possibility of deployment of an instantaneous total power (engine + hybrid) of over 1000hp.  FIA claims that the measure was imposed in the name of security.

With the limitation, the lap times of the cars of the main division of the WEC will certainly be higher than those recorded this year, since it is known that Porsche, Audi and Toyota LMP1 cars, when combined engine power with hybrid systems, outweigh the 1000 hp mark.
