Strakka Racing will start from 6th on the grid for Round 2 of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, after an excellent qualifying session.

Danny Watts had just one clear flying lap during the 20 minute qualifying session, but that was sufficient for him to set a 2:04.636 (125.7mph/202.3kph) in the team’s Honda Performance Development ARX-03a. A second flying lap was aborted because of traffic.

The excellent grid position was a culmination of a fantastic team effort, after an accident forced Strakka to miss all of Free Practice 2. The talented team of technicians repaired the car to allow Danny, Jonny Kane and Nick Leventis to all participate in the third and final free practice session and maximise the HPD ARX-03a’s performance on the famous 4.352 mile (7.004km) circuit.

The team is confident it has a strong car for the six hour race and is prepared for everything that Spa can throw at it – including the strong possibility of rain on race day.

Danny Watts: “Our qualifying lap time exceeded our expectations after we’d lost a whole free practice session yesterday, so we’re very pleased with P6. The car’s got good pace down the straights, we’ve got a decent about of downforce to maximise our overtaking opportunities and the car’s well balance through the corners. It’s particularly good in Sector 2, which is the busy part of the track with long sweeping corners, so it all bodes well for race day tomorrow.”
