Benny Simonsen, brother of the late Allan Simonsen, will race in the 6 Hours of COTA this weekend in the #96 LMGTE Am Aston Martin.
Sharing with Francesco Castellacci and Stuart Hall, the Dane will take part in his second WEC event after racing at Bahrain in a JWA Avila Porsche back in the inaugural 2012 season.
Simonsen replaces regular #96 Aston driver Roald Goethe, who has a business commitment that has stopped him travelling to Texas.
The 31-year-old had been previously lined up as a reserve for Goethe after the German’s huge Le Mans accident in June but Goethe recovered sufficiently to return to racing in the Nurburgring round.
The #96 Aston Martin has a best result of fourth place in class so far in WEC 2015, achieved during the Silverstone opener.
Simonsen, a bronze categorised driver, has raced in both the Bathurst 12 Hours and Spa 24 Hours this season in a Rosso Verde-entered Ferrari 458 Italia and also contested rounds of British GT and Blancpain Endurance, taking an Am class win in the latter.
