Porsche racks up the miles at Aragon

While Audi and Nissan continue to put miles on their 2015 FIA WEC challengers at Sebring this week, Porsche has started work at Motorland Aragon in Spain.

Neel Jani and Mark Webber are just two of their drivers in action at the Spanish track today as they renew their winter test programme.

Porsche is expected to register another 3,000 miles of running this week as it strives to challenge for the FIA WEC title in its second year in the LMP1 class.

The new-look Porsche 919 Hybrid will undergo four days of testing in Spain this week before preparing to attend the official FIA WEC Prologue test at the end of March.

The team ran deep into the evening last night and appears to be running a lower-downforce bodywork package to the one used in testing at the Bahrain International Circuit last month.

Motorsport.com has learned that the team will homologate its 2015 spec car next week. It remains to be seen whether Porsche will elect to go up to the 8 mega joule from the 6MJ division in enhancing energy retrieval.

All four of the LMP1 manufacturers are expected to announce their technical strategies at Paul Ricard on Thursday 26th March.

As well as Porsche, the British Strakka Racing LMP2 team is also at Aragon testing its Dome designed LMP2 car. The team continues to test new aerodynamic parts, as well as evaluating Michelin rubber. Strakka is the only full season FIA WEC LMP2 team to run on Michelin tyres this season.
