Berlin/Silverstone (rol/ot) First world championship run, first pole position, first win last weekend (12th to 14th of April) – there is no better way to start into the new season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke.
The Aston Martin works driver from Berlin, who shared the cockpit of the Vantage GTE with his team colleagues Darren Turner (Great Britain) and Bruno Senna (Brasil), won the six hour race on the traditional track of Silverstone in the GTE Pro class and same time the first out of eight season runs of the WEC."Of course, I am very happy about the first win at the 2013 world championship", the 31 year old said, who got the pole position on Saturday together with Turner in the hard fought GTE Pro class.
"We had a clean race without any problems at all. The car worked very well and our team Aston Martin Racing did a fantastic job", Stefan Mücke said delightedly, who already had an advance to the combatants at the first stint.
"Even if we couldn’t drive at the first free practice and missed out on a few kilometres on the dry track, we found a good setup. And when it started raining during the race, we stayed on track with slicks – that has been an explicit benefit", Stefan Mücke explained, who was behind the wheel for about 2 and a half hours.
"This win was a big thing to start with. I wouldn’t mind going on like that", the Berlin said, who wants to win in the GTE Pro class at the season highlight, the 24 hours race of Le Mans on the 22nd and 23rd of June, as well.
Last season, Mücke and Turner had one win at the WEC, two second positions and four third positions at the eight races in their class.
The next season event of the WEC 2013 will be the 6 hour race of Spa-Francorchamps on the 3rd/4th of May in Belgium, after that Le Mans will follow.
