Le Mans: The Legend is in Town
The FIA World Endurance Championship is hosting a free outdoor event which culminates in the showing of the 1971 Steve McQueen film ‘Le Mans’.
This weekend on the 20-22 September the world of endurance racing comes to Texas as the FIA World Endurance Championship and the American Le Mans Series will stage a Super Endurance Weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. A number of pre event activities are on offer for the people of Austin to enjoy as the clock counts down to the weekend of racing action.
One date that all fans of motor racing and classic movies should put in their diary is Thursday 19 September at The Long Centre for the Performing Arts from 7pm.
The FIA World Endurance Championship is hosting a free outdoor event which culminates in the showing of the 1971 Steve McQueen film ‘Le Mans’, the perfect introduction into the high speed world of sportscar racing and the style of racing that will be be available for all visitors to the Circuit of the Americas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As well as seeing the film ‘Le Mans’, there will be an opportunity to meet some of the real life heroes of the race track, including several winners of Le Mans and other famous names from the world of motor racing. There will also be the opportunity to see some of the race cars and win some very special prizes including race tickets and VIP Grid Walk passes that will enable the holder to walk next to the cars as they prepare for the race on Sunday.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club l’Ouest (ACO), promoter of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, said: “Everyone is welcome and we would like everyone in Austin to come and share this special evening with us. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the world’s most famous sporting events and this year we celebrated the 90th anniversary of the first race held in 1923.
M. Fillon continued: “As well as seeing the film ‘Le Mans’, visitors will be able to meet some of the drivers who will be taking part in the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday afternoon, including some drivers who have lifted the winner’s trophy on the podium at Le Mans. We hope you will come and join us for this very special introduction to the world of endurance and the spirit of Le Mans.”

At the “Le Mans: The Legend is in Town” outdoor movie night at The Long Center come see race cars, meet the drivers, including several winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, get autographs, meet and get photos with the Grid Girls, answer racing trivia and watch the classic Steve McQueen racing movie, “Le Mans” under the stars.

Round 5 of the FIA World Endurance Championship
On September 20-22, the Circuit of the Americas will host Round 5 of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship. The FIA WEC features eight races in North America, South America, Asia and Europe and includes as its ‘jewel-in-the-crown’ the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. The North American race will be the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas taking place on Sunday, September 22.
