There will be more than 180 sports cars involved in the big FIA WEC weekend at COTA.
When the FIA World Endurance Championship returns to action following the summer break, it will be to a Texas-sized sports car racing event at the Circuit of The Americas on 19/20 September.
The ‘Lone Star Le Mans’ weekend will bring together endurance racing’s only World Championship and North America’s Tudor United Sportscar Championship for a superb festival of action on and off track.
Due to be held for the second successive year at the impressive Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) in Austin, Texas, the 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas will give fans a true taste of Le Mans as the race will run from 5:00 pm into the night. The sights and sounds of the fastest sports prototypes in the world from Audi, Porsche and Toyota, together with Aston Martins, Ferraris and Porsche GTEs are guaranteed to excite and entertain, and racing at night adds to the tension and thrill for competitors and fans alike.
With Audi’s recent win at the world’s most famous and prestigious sportscar race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, there is now just one point between current World Championship title points leaders’ Toyota and the German marque. Porsche will be determined to translate the pace and performance shown at Le Mans into their first race win of the season, and the battle for race honours in the other three classes of competition will be equally hotly contested.
The FIA WEC’s 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas will follow the Tudor United Sportscar Championship’s 2h 45 minute race earlier in the day, which also features a host of iconic names, and together with the support races there will be over 180 sportscars for fans to see. The paddock is open to fans, there are pit walks and autograph sessions, and entry for children is free.
Off track fans will be treated to a carnival of live music and other entertainment. There is no reason not to be in Austin, Texas for the weekend of 19/20 September so ‘come on down y’all’ and join the FIA WEC for what promises to be one of the best weekends of racing since the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2014!
