Extreme Speed Motorsports enters WEC race at COTA

ESM is crossing over from TUSC to the WEC when the series heads to Austin, Texas in a few weeks.

The Extreme Speed Motorsports group confirmed to Sportscar365 earlier today that they will join fellow TUSC competitor Corvette Racing in the World Endurance Championship event at COTA later this year.

The former ALMS team has visited victory lane once this year, taking the checkereds in the Laguna Seca round of the TUDOR United SportsCar championship.

Now, they will enter their No. 1 car in the LMP2 category at the COTA, joining the ranks of WEC for a day. Scott Sharp, Ryan Dalziel and Ed Brown will pilot the machine and as a result, will miss the TUSC event.

The sister car will still participate in the TUDOR race with Johannes van Overbeek and Ed Brown behind the wheel. Yes, Brown will attempt the double and with both races being held on the same day, it will be quite a challenge.

The No. 1 ESM entry is realistically out of championship contention on the TUSC side and the No. 2 is just another 12 points ahead of them. According to the report on the sports car racing site, the FIA WEC have already approved the race team.

They will become the fifth LMP2 organization in the six hour endurance race at the end of September.
