The Tequila Patron ESM team has shaken down both of its new Ligier JSP2 chassis at a wet Magny Cours ahead of the cars' race debut.
The American team, which is undertaking a full season of WEC in 2015, will race the LMP2 coupes for the first time at this weekend’s 6 Hours of Spa.
ESM was forced to order the pair of new chassis in early March after its initial selection of LMP2 car – the ARX 04b HPD LMP2 coupe – was deliberately not homologated so it could undertake further development.
Chosen to undertake initial shakedown duties by Onroak Automotive, the company responsible for designing and constructing the Ligier, was current G-Drive Racing driver Pipo Derani, who impressed with a second place on his WEC debut at Silverstone.
Motorsport.com can reveal that all of the ESM drivers sampled the Ligier besides Ryan Dalziel. The American-domiciled Scot has travelled direct from the Barber Pirelli World Challenge race to Europe, but will not drive the car before free practice at Spa on Thursday.
The ESM Ligiers will travel to the Belgian track on Monday afternoon and will then return to their UK base in Leatherhead next week to prepare for the Le Mans test day on May 31.
