ByKolles unveils its LMP1 WEC challenger

The newly-named ByKolles team that will run the CLM P1/01 LMP1 car in the full 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship was officially launched online.

The revised car will again be powered by the Advanced Engine Research P60 engine.

ByKolles will be run and entered by KOAL Racing Engineering.

Joining the already confirmed Simon Trummer in the car will be Pierre Kaffer and Tonio Liuzzi.

Trummer raced with the team when it was simply known as Lotus LMP1 team last season at Bahrain but failed to complete a lap when the car retired on the first lap.

Kaffer raced the car in each of the five races at the end of last years' championship and continues in the team run by former F1 team boss Colin Kolles. Kaffer will miss the second round of the WEC as he will be busy racing in the TUSC event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Former grand prix driver Liuzzi joins the squad, and will his appearances alongside other racing commitments.

ByKolles will run under an Austrian nationality this year, while the engineering operation will again be spearheaded by long-time Kodewa employee – Boris Bermes.

Significant upgrades

The team states that the former Lotus LMP2 chassis is significantly upgraded for the coming year and features a new aerodynamic package, new rear suspension, gearbox (a change from Hewland to Xtrac) and an overall weight saving.

Kolles, who took over the day-to-day running of the now defunct Caterham F1 team last season, first ran a sportscar team in 2009 when he acquired two Audi R10 LMP1 cars. The Romanian gave Andre Lotterer his LMP1 chance that season where the now three-time Le Mans winner finished in seventh with teammate Charles Zwolsman Jnr.

ByKolles will track debut the new-look LMP1 car, with the fresh livery (in deference to Austrian sports marketing company – Yellowwings) at the official WEC test later this month.
