AF CORSE HAS THE LEAD OF THE GTE PRO CATEGORY OF THE WEC THANKS TO THE VICTORY OF BERTOLINI-BERETTA-CIOCI ON FERRARI 458 ITALIA
SEBRING, March 18th – At the opening round of the new FIA World Endurance Championship (Wec) at Sebring International Raceway in Florida, the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia won the GTE Pro category. At the Sebring 12 Hours, the car driven by Andrea Bertolini, Olivier Beretta and Marco Cioci is the fastest and took the chequered flag in the first position among the GTE Pro cars of the Wec at the end of a very close race until the last moment.
The 458 #71 started from the fifth position on the grid. After three hours, the Ferrari of Bertolini-Beretta-Cioci was in the first position. The Safety Car, maked an entrance repeatedly on racetrack, has decisively affected the race but the # 71 Ferrari had not let go the podium positions till the end of the race.
There is a bit of regret for the Ferrari 458 #51. In the early period of the race in Florida, the car driven by Giancarlo Fisichella, Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander had a technical problem. At the end, the three drivers finished in the fourth place among all the cars of the GTE Pro (of the Wec), with the fastest lap (2'00 "123).
Positive result for the Ferrari 458 GT2 Italia protagonist of GTE Am category with the AF-Waltrip team. The fourth position under the checkered flag - thanks to Robert Kauffman, Michael Waltrip and Rui Aguas – is a great result despite a technical problems in the first hour. Once worked out thanks the team, the trio of AF Waltrip gained important positions showing to be very competitive.
