Geoff Farmer took advantage of his pole position in the in his 1968 Lotus 49B Cosworth to take a flag to flag victory in the shortened first race of the Strathfield Formula Adelaide.
Hounding Farmer throughout the entire event was the Lotus 49 Cosworth of Pete Lovely.
"I saw the video of last years race and there was a great battle between Pete (Lovely) and Vern Schuppan and I think that the race today was just a good" said Farmer
"I knew that Pete was right behind me for the entire event but I go out to win in whatever event we enter and was quicker than him in the fast sections which helped us hold on for the victory.
"It was a really good race that Pete and I had out there and if we had to pack the car up now we would go home happy with one pole and a race win
"There is two more races tomorrow and hopefully we will be up the front again tomorrow."
Second placed Lovely was pleased with his second place finish.
"I had a great battle with Geoff (Farmer) but was not quite close enough to make a challenge." said Lovely
"Maybe tomorrow the tide will turn and if we get a good start we should be able to take a victory in one of the two races."
Behind the two race leaders it was a battle of the Brabham's with youngest of the trio Gary taking the honours over Geoff and father Sir Jack finishing in fifth place.
"I am delighted to finish ahead of Geoff and Dad. Dad got a good jump at the start and I really had to work to get by him." said Gary
"Dad was driving exceptionally was handling the car well, getting the car sideways out of the corners and he took a lot to get passed.
"I had a look behind in my mirrors and saw the yellow car of Geoff closing and picked up the pace to challenge Dad to finish in third position."
