Davies and Stroll double winners at Shell Historic Challenge.
BRASELTON, GA., May 11. Ed Davies and Lawrence Stroll were class winners in both Drum and Disc Brake groups in the first day of racing for the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge at Road Atlanta. Stroll was the overall winner in his 512 BB/LM among the Disc cars, with Davies taking a class win in his 250 SWB Comp/61. Ray Hartman had qualified his 512 BB/LM on pole, but a mechanical problem forced him into the pits and out or the race on the pace lap.
The situation was reversed for the Drum Brake group, with Davies taking the overall and class wins in his Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spyder. Stroll won his class in his Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, and Peter Giddings won the Pre-War class in his Alfa Romeo Monza.
The second pair of races for the Shell Historics at Road Atlanta will take place on Sunday afternoon. Hartman's crew has indicated they will have his car ready, but he will start from the back of the grid.
