Race 2 - Brooklands Revival Race for Pre War Cars

12 Laps

Maserati driver Mark Gillies comfortably won the second race of the day, finishing four and half seconds of Tony Stephens in his ERA, with Paul Jaye Alfa a distant 3rd .

As the cars came around the last turn behind the pace car 7th placed Alexander Boswell timed his start perfectly to shoot into the lead. However, his hard work was undone as he forgot to take the banked turn on the opening lap and turned left into the chicane. Pole position holder Irvine Laidlaw regained the lead, but only briefly as he span off at the hairpin on the second lap.

Mark Gillies inherited the lead, with Tony Stephens behind him in second. These two lead cars strode away from the rest of the field.

The luckiest escape of the day goes to Bentley 3/8 driver Tim Llewellyn whose car suffered a slow puncture during the race. Tim explained what happened, "It got a little wobbly out there and I decided that doing 110 mph with a flat tyre on the banking wasn't a good idea, so I parked."
