MOTOSCOPE NORTHERN HISTORIC RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP TO GET UNDERWAY EVENTUALLY!
After the disappointment of the enforced postponement of the Motoscope Riponian Rally last month, and with the unfortunate subsequent cancellation of the Robin Hood Stages Rally which was scheduled for March 14/15, there is some good news for competitors in the Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship at last!
When the forests around Thirsk and Helmsley became impassable due to heavy snowfall just before the February 15th event, Ripon Motorsports Club were trying to reschedule the event for April when news came in of the sad demise of the Robin Hood Stages due to lack of entries, which was supposed to host round two.
However, with Lindholme Motor Sports Club's blessing, the Riponian organisers have decided to run the event on Sunday 15th March so after all, the rally will comprise the opening round of the series.
Championship Co-ordinator Mark Casey said: "We are delighted that the Riponian has been rescheduled for the 15th March and that the opening round of the championship can take place, hopefully in much better weather conditions than the original date. The championship has now attracted more entries, with a wide variety of cars from each of the three historic categories. Looking at the unseeded entries to date, it is looking like the Riponian will still have a quality historic field, including competitors who had not entered for the initial running of the event. It is a real shame that the Robin Hood has had to be cancelled due to a lack of entries, with the event running in the dark it would have provided a superb spectacle in Sherwood Forest, but it was not to be and hopefully it will be back next year. A replacement round for the Robin Hood is being considered, but if a replacement cannot be found, the championship will comprise eight rounds with the best six to count."
