Local Driver Wins Major Trophies at Brighton Speed Trials

70 year old Ringmer resident Jim Tiller drove his 1950 J2 Allard to victory at last Saturday's Brighton Speed Trials.

A retired Brighton and Cuckfield art teacher, Jim beat over 200 entries including the latest, modern racing machinery, to take home trophies for Fastest Time of the Day, with a 10.2 second run over the quarter mile course on Madeira Drive, crossing the finish line at 142 miles an hour; Fastest Brighton & Hove Motor Club member; Fastest in Class 8 for Unlimited Sports Cars and Fastest push rod engined, V8 car.

Jim has been greatly helped by his friend Dave Hooper and is indebted to Alan Hassell of Eastbourne for building and setting up the engine. Jim's first love is motor racing and says his success at the Brighton Speed Trials is one of his greatest achievements to date over his 46 years competing with the same car. Not bad for a 70 year old.

Jim also runs the local Lewes & District Visual Arts Association; the Lewes & Seaford Cats Protection and is Captain of the Allard Owners Club.
