AMERICAN MUSCLE RETURNS TO THE GLEN CORVETTE FEATURE ANNOUNCED FOR WATKINS GLEN HISTORIC RACES

Watkins Glen, NY ( March 9, 1999 ) -- "Classic American Muscle" will be everywhere at this year's Watkins Glen Historic Races, as the Chevrolet Corvette takes center stage, June 4-6.

The 1999 Watkins Glen Historic Races will feature a full program of Historic Sportscar Racing, highlighted by a tribute to America's only sportscar, the Chevrolet Corvette. Watkins Glen will become home to Corvette owners and club members from around the country as a full field of classic Corvettes compete in Sunday's feature race.

One of the many significant Corvettes featured will be the Greenwood "Sebring '75" Corvette. The Greenwood Corvette still holds the all-time speed record at Daytona, 236 mph. It was the first stock framed, flat sided, open flared, wide body GT race car in the world and was the only American car to break Porsche's dominance in 1974 and '75. Racer, collector, and historian, Lance Smith, will be preparing the historic Corvette for the Watkins Glen Historic Races.

Historic Sportscar Racing will present a full weekend schedule of racing with over 300 immaculately restored race cars from the IMSA GTP, Camel Lights and GT, SCCA Can-Am, Trans-Am and Formula 5000, NASCAR Winston Cup, Indy Car, and the FIA Championship of Makes series. Tickets for the 1999 Watkins Glen Historic Races and The Glen's full season are now available. For ticket, reserved camping, and additional information please contact the Watkins Glen ticket office at 607-535-2481 or log onto the official Watkins Glen website at www.theglen.com .
