The King comes to Amelia 2010!

Richard Petty has accepted an invitation to be the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Honorary Chairman for 2010. The seven time NASCAR champion, winner of 200 races and seven time Daytona 500 winner will be helping "The Amelia" celebrate its fifteenth anniversary. In a world of standout competitors Petty is widely considered the greatest NASCAR driver of all time. Petty has collected a record number 127 pole positions and over 700 top-ten finishes in his 1,185 starts, including an astounding 513 consecutive starts from 1971-1989.

He was the sole stock car representative in the first class inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1989. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and NASCAR named him one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. President George Bush awarded Petty the Medal of Freedom in 1992, the first motorsports individual ever to be honored with this award.

Bill Warner, founder and co-chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance said, "What better way to celebrate our 15th Anniversary than with the "King", we are thrilled to have one of America's true heroes here with us next spring."

"The Amelia" is expecting to have an extensive collection of Petty's competition mounts; from the dominating winged Plymouth Superbirds to the Petty blue Ford Torino. Next years event is scheduled for March 12 -14, 2010 at the Golf Club of Amelia Island Summer Beach on the grounds of the Ritz Carlton.
