Young gun Tim Slade grabs his first pole at Sydney
First Jamie Whincup did not make it into the top 10 chasing for the pole, and then Will Davison made unusual errors. Tim Slade is one happy pole winner in the V8 Supercars Australia season finale weekend.

Luck 7 Racing pilot Tim Slade grabbed his 1st V8 Supercar pole award after clocking a 1.29.56 around the streets of Homebush during the top ten shoot out following the first round of qualifying. The Ford driver is in his 4th year Stone Brothers Racing, and was the seventh challenger on the track.
"It's awesome to have pole position on your resume but we want to bring home a solid result this afternoon,” said Slade.
He put the pressure on Will Davison who held the fastest lap in qualifying and therefore last one to make an attempt. Davison gave it all he had in his Ford but fell short. Davison made a number of unforced errors and clipped the concrete walls twice which put paid to any hope of grabbing pole or the $20,000 that was on offer for the most poles during the season.
Although Slade has averaged 11th in qualifying and 8th in races this year expect him to cut those percentages over the weekend, particularly now his is at the front of the field for today’s 250 kilometre race. The pressure is now on the big name drivers.
Rick Kelly in the Jack Daniels Holden failed to complete his lap due to mechanical issues and will start from 10th on the grid.
