RICK KELLY SAYS THE SPEED IS THERE FOR SUCCESS

Jack Daniel's Racing driver Rick Kelly says that he has the speed to challenge for podium finishes as the V8 Supercar Championship Series heads to the sixth event of the 2010 season at Winton Motor Raceway just outside Benalla, Victoria this weekend.

Kelly has identified qualifying as the area of his performance that needs improvement as the former V8 champion looks to score his first podium finish of the season.

Consistency has been the hallmark of Kelly's season so far, with nine of the 10 races held so far this season resulting in a top 10 finish for the #15 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore.

Those results have Kelly sitting in sixth place in the points standings entering this weekend's two races at Winton, where for only the second time Dunlop's soft tyre will be used for both qualifying sessions and races.

Brother and Jack Daniel's Racing team-mate Todd Kelly has had a difficult start to the season -- so much so that the 30-year-old has switched to a new helmet for the Winton event this weekend as he searches for a change of luck.

JACK DANIEL'S RACING QUOTEBOARD

RICK KELLY - #15 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:

"We are definitely looking forward to Winton," said Rick Kelly.

"We've just been up to Queensland and it was quite hot for our first all-soft tyre event. It's good to head down south where it's nice and cold for the next one.

"We had good results at Winton last year considering we were still a new team at that time. We were third overall on points for the weekend so that was great for us.

"We need to do the same thing this year, if not a bit better. We're keen on putting all the miles we've done at Winton to good use and making sure that we stay in front of the Queensland teams.

"We're in a good position in the championship now in sixth. It will be easy for us to slip backwards but at the same time we are only 76 points away from third position and around the 280 mark from first.

"With the year that we've got ahead with the endurance races being split in terms of the lead drivers and also with the new format for the Gold Coast, we're still very much in the championship fight if we start getting top three race results.

"So we really need to focus on that now and keep our eyes on what's in front of us, not behind us, and keep gathering those points.

"I think that the speed is in the car now. I think at all the rounds we've been to this year, if I had qualified the car better we would have been able to stay around the fourth, third, second place mark.

"Still, there is pace that we need to find to be in the top two spots, there is no doubt about that, but I don't think you need to finish there to win the championship.

"If we had the car to constantly finish third it would be well within reach with all the ups and downs that everyone is having. So for me, I really need to focus on the qualifying side of things.

"It's important to have confidence from the results that we've already got this year.

"We would probably be the most consistent car on the track, which has always been a bit of a thing that I look for from the 15 car.

"The only time we were not there was when another car made a mistake and it took us out at Adelaide.

"So we need to maintain that - we need to move forward but still maintain that consistency."

TODD KELLY - #7 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:

"I had a good feeling before the Grand Prix because I knew we would go reasonably well there and we did, other than when we had a brake problem," said Todd Kelly.

"We were definitely in the top three or four on that weekend and that's where we set our sights to be.

"On some tracks we still need to find some more speed and Queensland is definitely one of those places.

"But for Winton, it's our test track and again I'm confident about how well we can get our Jack Daniel's Commodores working around there for this weekend.

"We've had a pretty average run of luck with Car 7 so hopefully my new helmet bring a change of luck."
