Despite the scaling back of Ford's involvement in V8 Supercar racing and the Prodrive Racing Australia outfit, Mark Winterbottom says he isn't going anywhere.
Up until the end of last year Prodrive Racing Australia was known as Ford Performance Racing, and was Ford's factory entry in the sport. However, the Blue Oval has now drastically scaled back its financial involvement in V8 Supercars - and will pull out altogether at the end of the season - leaving question marks over PRA's future.
But driver Mark Winterbottom told Motorsport.com that he has no qualms over either his future, or that of the team.
"I feel good. I have a long-term deal with the team, so regardless of what happens I'm contracted to the team," he said.
"The Ford thing is important because I've only ever driven Ford racecars, but you can't control that. The team decides what's going on, and what they want to do. In terms of brand, the passion is with Ford, that would be nice. But I'm contracted to the team, so whatever they decide business-wise I know I'll be driving to Campbellfield every day for work.
The team is definitely going to be there, whatever happens in the future in terms of what we race will be their decision. I know I've got security for years.
"I know that, but I don't know what else the future will hold.
"I'll stay at Prodrive. They have good owners, it's a well-run team, and we have great sponsors. Ford is another sponsor, really, like Pepsi or Castrol. If we can get another sponsor, then we will have the same budget as with Ford.
"And the team is definitely going to be there, whatever happens in the future in terms of what we race will be their decision. I know I've got security for years."
Is the FG X proof that the team could get the job done for "any manufacturer"?
Winterbottom added that the success Prodrive has already had with the new-for-2015 Ford Falcon FG X is proof that the team knows how to build a quick car, regardless of whether it has factory support from Ford or not.
"People say the FG X is quick, but DJR have the same car and they're not doing the same things we are," he said.
"The team does a good job, and that's why it would be an appealing team for any manufacturer.
"Other than Triple Eight we've been the best team for the last six or seven years. The FG X didn't just miraculously fix itself. I'm confident that the team will always build good cars, and that's why I signed a long deal.
"You get into this sport to win, and to do that you have to pick the right team."
