Will Davison in the Trading Post Ford grabbed his first Bathurst pole position although had to wait for friend Jamie Whincup in the Team Vodafone Commodore who was last to cross the line during the top ten shoot out before he hugged his team mates.

Davison said that grabbing pole was not important as there were a thousand kilometres tomorrow which would come down to the last hour of the race, the strategies the team will work on tonight and a bit of luck. Davison, “I’ve had some highs here and I’ve had some lows”. Last year Davison missed out by four one hundreds of a second.

Whincup took second spot on the grid after admitting he “mucked up” the last corner and knew when he looked at the crowd that the Ford fans were cheering and then looked back at his steering wheel when his time flashed up. His stable mate Craig Lowdnes in the sister car finished back in 9th and looked disappointed with himself, however, he knows that the Great Race is not won on the first lap.

Shane Van Gisbergen who held the 1st spot for the early session of the shoot out managed 3rd and was pleased to be at the front of the grid. Although the rain didn’t come there were a few spots on the windscreens and all those in pit lane prayed for it to hold off after last year’s havoc.
