Whincup tops Bathurst qualifying

It was an almost seamless day for defending V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup and co-driver Paul Dumbrell, Whincup landing provisional pole position for tomorrow’s Top Ten Shootout.

TeamVodafone teammate Craig Lowndes set the fifth fastest qualifying time, under three tenths of a second off Whincup's.

Dumbrell was first out in the #1 Commodore, setting the second quickest time of the co-driver practice session.

Car #888 co-driver Warren Luff also had a consistent run, putting together the 11th fastest lap on used tyres and loaded with a full tank of fuel.

After Whincup topped the time sheets in Practice 5, the #1 Holden pilot also clocked the quickest time in Qualifying, posting the flyer on his second last lap.

Setting the second fastest time in Practice 5, Lowndes sat second on the qualifying time sheets until the closing minutes saw the majority of the field opt for green hard tyres, pushing him to fifth for tomorrow’s Top Ten Shootout.

Tomorrow will see a final practice session at 10.25am (AEST) followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 4.30pm (AEST).
