Defending V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup has recorded his 55th career race victory in today’s Hidden Valley opener, while teammate Craig Lowndes fought his way from the rear of the grid to a fourth place finish.
Whincup qualified fourth and moved up into third position in today’s Top Ten Shootout. The #1 Holden driver credits precision monitoring of track conditions by his TeamVodafone crew, for what he described as an almost perfect race set-up, taking him to his third race victory of the season.
After suffering suspension issues during qualifying, Lowndes started from 20th on the grid. The #888 pilot got a good start before being pushed off the track on Lap 3 while avoiding a slidding back marker.
Lowndes fell to 26th and gambled on an additional pitstop during a safety car period. Moving to softs earlier than anticipated paid off for the TeamVodafone driver who moved up through the order and into fourth position by the race end.
Whincup has regained the V8 Supercar Championship lead, two points ahead of Will Davison while Lowndes sits fourth on 1097 points.
The final day of the SKYCITY Triple Crown Event will see the V8 Supercars take the track for Qualifying at 12.40pm (NTST) followed by Race (insert race no) of the V8 Supercar 69 lap race at 3.05pm (NTST).
