Craig Lowndes will begin the 1000km race ninth off the grid.

Wrapping up this morning's final 50-minute practice session in 11th, Whincup hit the Top Ten Shootout last out of the ten contenders with the current four fastest laps within a tenth of a second off pole.

The #1 Holden pilot managed to get two ten-thousandths of a second up in the second sector of his lap but was four one-hundredths of a second off front runner Will Davison's time, resulting in a second place start for tomorrow's race.

Finishing sixth in this morning's practice, Lowndes struggled to match the pace of the top shootout times, managing to post the ninth fastest lap.

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will see a warm up session at 7.25am (AEDST) followed by the Great Race at 10.30am (AEDST).
