Jamie Whincup and David Reynolds each earned a pole ahead of today’s two sprint races at the Auckland.
Despite an off track excursion towards the end of the session, Whincup was able to secure pole for Race 28 of the 2015 V8 Supercars season with a time of 1:03.32s.
Reynolds will also start the first race of the weekend from the front row, just 0.0045s behind Whincup's fast lap. Scott Pye, Shane Van Gisbergen, and Scott McLaughlin rounded out the top five.
In the closing stages, drama ensued between Cameron Waters and Ash Walsh, who made contact at the Turn 5 chicane, causing damage to both the Mercedes and Ford. Waters has been penalized four positions on the Race 28 grid for the collision.
In Race 29 qualifying, Reynolds was able to one-up himself and go P1 with a time of 1:02.47s, edging Craig Lowndes by a mere two hundredths.
McLaughlin and Whincup will make up the second row and James Courtney filled out the final spot inside the top five. After repairs were made to his machine, Waters was able to secure the tenth spot on the grid while Walsh was unable to take part.
