Shane van Gisbergen insists he has no concerns pitting himself directly against V8 Supercars legends Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup next season.
It has already been announced that the Kiwi will leave Tekno Autosports at the end of the season, and join Triple Eight Race Engineering as the Red Bull-backed squad expands to three cars.
That means van Gisbergen – a nine-time race winner – will be directly up against the number one and two drivers on the all time Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars race winners list, Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.
While Lowndes and Whincup, who have 99 and 91 wins to their names respectively, are destined to go down as all-time greats of the sport, van Gisbergen says he’s fazed about taking them on in identical machinery.
“I haven’t even thought about it, to be honest,” he told Motorsport.com.
“I’m not going there to race Jamie, I’m going there because I think it’s the best place to win a championship in the future.
“I’m not thinking about my team-mates – I’m looking forward to working with them on and off the track – but I’m not going there to just try and beat them.”
Whincup and Lowndes also have nine titles between them, with Whincup having only missed out on one championship win since the 2008 season.
