TeamVodafone pilot Craig Lowndes has begun his mission to regain the V8 Supercar Championship lead, finishing up with the second-fastest lap of Symmons Plains today, ahead of teammate Jamie Whincup in sixth.

The team got their first taste of Tasmania’s 2.4km track in the third practice session of the day, Whincup earning himself the sixth fastest time of the session with Lowndes behind in 11th.

It wasn’t until the last 8 minutes of the final session that Lowndes set his time, the TeamVodafone driver upgrading to a green set of tyres to set the second-fastest lap time of the day.

Whincup struggled throughout the day to find the right set-up for car #88, lacking pace during both practice sessions and again posted the sixth-fastest time in the final session.

Saturday’s on-track activities will see the V8 Supercars qualify for Race 23 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at 11.20am (AEDST) followed by the 50-lap race which will kick off at 4.05pm (AEDST).
