Lowndes and Skaife prepare to defend L&H 500 title
Defending L&H 500 champions Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife showed promise of a repeat in today’s practice sessions at Phillip Island, posting the fastest times of the day with Jamie Whincup and Andrew Thompson close behind in second.
Lowndes and Whincup kick-started proceedings with early pace, finish second and third respectively in their stints in the opening session.
Skaife and Thompson took the opportunity to get their eye in towards the end of the same session, holding station in the #888 and #88 cars.
Skaife blitzed the co-driver session, showing his comfort back in the TeamVodafone seat for the second year, with Thompson consolidating for a solid 14th fastest.
The final session saw TeamVodafone go 1-2 led by the Skaife/Lowndes combination, with Whincup and Thompson strong in second.
Tomorrow will see two final practice sessions followed directly by two qualifying sessions starting at 11.25am. Qualifying Race One will begin at 2.35pm with Qualifying Race Two wrapping up Saturday’s race activities at 4.35pm.
