RAIN has thrown qualifying for Race 21 at the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 on its head, with a shower affecting fast times.

Bathurst winner Garth Tander topped the times early in the session before the rain arrived, rendering the large portion of the 30-minute session as useless for setting quick times in.

The Toll HRT ace, therefore, stayed on top and will be last car against the clock in the Top 10 Shootout.

The rest of the Shootout field will be Steve Owen, Jamie Whincup, Alex Davison, Lee Holdsworth, James Courtney, Will Davison, Shane van Gisbergen, Rick Kelly and James Moffat.

Championship leader Craig Lowndes was caught out with an ignition problem at the beginning of the session and was unable to set a time good enough to qualify in the top 10. He and Andy Priaulx will start 15th this afternoon.

Another big name to miss is Mark Winterbottom - he and Richard Lyons will start 17th.
