V8 SUPERCAR - SHELL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RACE DAY - QUEENSLAND RACEWAY - ROUND SEVEN ISSUED: SUNDAY, 11th JULY 1999

CAT SET TO FIGHT EXCLUSION FROM FIRST V8 VICTORY

Cat Racing's historic first victory is in dispute following the latest round of the V8 Shell Championship Series at Queensland Raceway today.

Bowe greeted the chequered flag first in the final race after a barnstorming charge from seventh on the grid.

However, race officials alleged Bowe passed race leader Garth Tander under a yellow flag and excluded him from the results.

"The car was fantastic in the final race and we fully intend to appeal the decision," Bowe said.

"It is really disappointing because this team has worked very hard for this win and the I believe the decision to exclude us from the results is unjust."

Officials alleged Bowe failed to call into the pits after being displayed a black flag with three laps remaining.

"I didn't see the black flag at the start-finish line and apparently it was only shown to me once," Bowe said.

"There is no doubt we are going to explore every possible avenue available to us to appeal against this decision. At the end of the day, I was first across the line and it is really disappointing for all the team because they are the ones who really deserve this."

After starting from pole position in the opening race, Bowe struggled with tyre problems to finish in 11th place.

The Cat crew made major changes to the suspension set-up prior to race two where the Tasmanian finished in 7th place in a rain-interrupted event.

In the final event, the former Australian touring car champion showed his class with a brilliant effort to move through to first place.

"The boys have done an amazing job so far and the changes we made to car after the first race worked really well," Bowe said

"We still had problems with tyres starting to grain, but the car was still good enough to win.

"This is not the way we wanted to celebrate our first victory.

"Victories in this category do not come easy so we are not going to give up on this without a fight."
