V8 Supercar champ Jamie Whincup bitten by snake

Fortunately, the snake was not venomous.

Six-time V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup was bitten by a snake during a media activity organised to announce a new deal with his Triple Eight team.

The Australian, the series' champion for the past four years, was posing with a non-venomous black-headed python at the Taronga zoo in Sydney when he was attacked.

Despite the injury, Whincup said he should be fine for this weekend's first pre-season test in Sydney.

"Bucket list stuff, being bitten by a snake – they tell me it's not venomous. Good start to the year!" Whincup said.

"We pushed the friendship a little bit – we were posing with the championship trophy, we moved around a few times, he just wanted to get out of there.

"If it had arms, it probably would've taken a swing, but he used his only defense possible, had a bite."
