ANOTHER GREAT ROUND FOR MCNALLY IN V8 UTES AT TOWNSVILLE
Glenn McNally forged his way forward in both V8 Utes races at Townsville today as well as jumping to sixth in the series standings at a crucial time of the year.
Starting from grid 10 in the reverse-top-16 race 2 today, after a strong seventh place yesterday, Glenn didn't waste any time pushing forward at the start.
By the end of the first lap Glenn was up to 7th place and chasing down those ahead of him.
"I was a bit of a hard track to pass on," Glenn said.
"That's why it was important to get a few on the first lap and then not waste any time working on the rest of them."
Glenn got up to 5th place and battled hard with Craig Dontas in the last few laps but was unable to get past him.
"We had a good battle; he was blocking a fair bit and when I went down the outside of him going into turn 3 he squeezed me into the wall - luckily there was no damage."
The final race of the round had Glenn starting from grid 7.
Kim Jane got the jump on Glenn off the line and pushed him back a place with his work cut out to gain it back.
"It took me a couple of laps to catch and pass Jane again," Glenn said. "After that I spent a few laps chasing down Kurt Wimmer before passing him for 6th place with just a few laps to go."
Glenn went on to finish 6th in the race, 6th for the round and move up to 6th in the series.
"We are definitely going forward now; it was great to back up Darwin's performance with a good result here today.
"We have 3 rounds to go and to finish in the top 5 of the series now my aim.
"It was great to have some of our sponsors here again to watch myself and Mark race this weekend.
"Thanks to the guys from HSE Group and NRW for supporting us at the track this weekend."
Glenn's next race is at Victoria's Sandown Raceway on August 1-2.
