Triple Eight Race Engineering’s expansion to three cars for 2016 is now clear for take-off, after the team successfully won the tender for a 26th Racing Entitlements Contract.
V8 Supercars Australia opened the tender just before the Perth round last month, with the deadline for bids closing last Friday.
Today, the category announced that Triple Eight is the successful bidder, and will field the 26th car in 2016.
“The bid process was extremely competitive amongst the bidders,” said V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton.
“It is testament to the great health and growth of the sport at all levels that a number of parties wanted the opportunity to join the championship from next year.”
Triple Eight has already signed a third driver for 2016, with Shane van Gisbergen to join Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.
Tenno is now closing in on appointing a replacement for van Gisbergen, as reported earlier today by Motorsport.com.
