PERKINS GAINS SOLID FINISH AFTER SETBACK IN TOWNSVILLE

Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins has recovered from a mid-race setback to claim 18th place in the opening race of the inaugural Dunlop Townsville 400 today.

Perkins recorded his fifth top 20 finish for the season aboard the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore, lifting him three spots in the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series points standings to 25th place.

Perkins spun on lap 33 as a result of contact with Jamie Whincup at the final corner on the brand new 2.9-kilometre circuit.

Perkins recovered and worked hard to regain lost ground, climbing back up the order to give the Dodo Racing Team crew some encouraging signs ahead of tomorrow's race.

Whincup won today's opening race of the Dunlop Townsville 400 ahead of Will Davison and Garth Tander.

WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...

Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:

"It looked like we had a pretty good strategy going at Dodo Racing Team," said Perkins.

"We had a couple of good pit stops and excellent track position and the guys in our team just did an excellent job all round today.

"Unfortunately we got turned around by the No 1 car. I don't know what happened. It was a bit disappointing because we lost a heap of spots and a lot of track position.

"But a top 20 is a good start to the weekend. We'll try and back that up tomorrow with an even better finish."
