Dual podium for TeamVodafone in first leg of the Clipsal 500
TeamVodafone have dominated the opening leg of the Clipsal 500 with Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes both finishing on the podium.
The duo, finished second and third respectively in a drama filled race, full of forced pits stops and safety cars.
It turned into a strategic race for fuel economy and tactics between Whincup and race winner Garth Tander as they battled each other for the lead the entire race.
Lowndes, who started 11th moved confidently up the ladder, but a safety car on Lap 45 forced him to queue in pitlane and thwarted a potential race winning strategy.
Whincup has extended his lead in the championship and now sits 123 points clear of Mark Winterbottom, while Lowndes has moved from ninth to fifth and is just 27 points behind second place.
TeamVodafone will return to the Adelaide street circuit tomorrow for the final 250km leg of the Clipsal 500.
