2011 V8 Supercar pre-season test day
TeamVodafone's Craig Lowndes topped the timesheets at today's official pre-season practice day at Sydney's Eastern Creek, breaking the benchmark lap of Marcos Ambrose set in 2001 to lower the mark to 1.30.1877.
Lowndes was on song in his #888 Holden Commodore which turned its first timed laps featuring the new livery for season 2011.
Teammate Jamie Whincup's test wasn't as eventful, finishing 12th by the day's end.
A problem with the bank of tyres available to car #88 may have been the problem, assessed the crew.
A new wheel spindle was tested today and TeamVodafone Technical Director, Ludo Lacroix, was happy with the results.
Announced on Thursday as Lowndes' endurance driver for a second successive season, Mark Skaife was on hand today and climbed aboard the now familiar cockpit of car #888.
Skaife was pleased with the brief hitout and is looking forward to getting back on track for the 2011 enduros, Phillip Island and Bathurst.
