The defending Champion got a good start and moved into the lead on hard compound tyres. Whincup opted to stay out on track and maintain track position during the first safety period called for an opening lap melee.

With good tyre life and consistent driving, the #1 Holden pilot powered home to his 12th win of the season.

Struggling to get a clean run with heavy traffic throughout the 20 minute qualifying, Lowndes ended the session15th..

Consciously preparing to run a different pitstop strategy, Lowndes utlised the early safety car period to pit and switch to green soft compound tyres.

Lowndes gained 13 positions throughout the 46-lap race to take TeamVodafone to it's fourth 1-2 finish for the season.

The Brisbane-based team now have 13 1-2 podium finishes to their name, Whincup having won eight of those and Lowndes five.

Tomorrow will see Qualifying at 1pm (AEDST) followed by Race 28 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at 3.35pm (AEDST).
