V8 Supercar Champion to remain with Triple Eight Race Engineering under new multi-year agreement
Triple Eight Race Engineering today announced, three-time V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup, will remain with the Holden team for 2013 and beyond.
Whincup joins teammate Craig Lowndes in re-signing with the Brisbane-based outfit as the first of nine ‘Car of the Future’ chassis the team is building, takes shape in the Banyo factory.
Today’s announcement also follows the recent confirmation that General Motors Holden will partner Triple Eight Race Engineering into the new era and guarantees continuity for the team and its engineering staff during the change over to ‘Car of the Future’ in 2013.
The 29 year old has enjoyed great success in his six years with the team, amassing 53 race wins, three V8 Supercar driver’s titles and three Bathurst 1000 victories.
“I am very pleased to confirm that I have renewed my agreement with Triple Eight Race Engineering for another three years,” Whincup said.
“It feels great knowing that I am settled long term, in an environment that I am happy with, and that has the enthusiasm to continue to set the benchmark.
“I look forward to working with and sharing more challenges and success with my friends at TeamVodafone and their team of valued corporate partners. It’s also an important time for me to be close to my family.
“My whole focus is on this years V8 Supercar Championship, however I look forward to working with the crew and being a part of the development process of ‘Car of the Future’,” Whincup added.
Managing Director Roland Dane said re-signing Whincup along with Craig Lowndes guarantees invaluable continuity to the team.
“We are all over the moon to be able to confirm that Jamie will be staying with us for the foreseeable future,” Dane said.
“With both Jamie and Craig on board I know that we have the strongest driver line-up in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
“Jamie has time and time again proven to be not only the ultimate winner but also the ultimate fighter.
“Car of the Future is massively important to us as a team and there is no doubt in my mind that by having Jamie on-board we will go into 2013 with the best possible chance of winning in Adelaide next year,” Dane stated.
