TeamVodafone most decorated team for 2010
Despite narrowly missing out on this year's Drivers Championship, It was all smiles for TeamVodafone who took out five awards at the V8 Supercars 2010 Gala Awards in Sydney last night.
The team were awarded Best Presented Team, Champion Team of the Year, Pole Position Award, Bathurst Champions Award and also celebrated driver Jamie Whincup's Runner-up prize for the Championship.
The decorations were the icing on the cake for TeamVodafone who have enjoyed a highly successful year both on and off the track.
Whincup started the year off with a bang, dominating the overseas circuits to win the first four races in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
The two-time V8 Supercar Champion, who also won both races at Hamilton, went on to collect more victories bringing his race win tally to 9 and pole positions to 10.
Together with Mark Skaife, teammate Craig Lowndes conquered both endurance events, taking the team to the top of the podium at both the L&H 500 and Bathurst 1000.
In one of their more recent achievements, both Lowndes and Whincup were named in the top ten Touring Car Drivers of all time alongside racing royalties such as Peter Brock.
It's been a year full of fond memories according to Team Principal Roland Dane who dubs the 1-2 formation finish at Bathurst one of the team's greatest on-track moments.
Dane said they were proud of their 2010 efforts and were honoured to receive the awards.
"2010 has definitely been a brilliant year for TeamVodafone and we have worked very hard to get to this point," Dane stated.
"Unfortunately we weren't quite good enough to win the Drivers Championship again but we can still look back on what we've done this year and be very proud.
"We've had more race wins this year than any other team, dominated the endurance races, and achieved a Bathurst 1-2 for the first time in 26 years and for the third time in history.
"It's great to be acknowledged for our performance both on and off the track. To win both the Best Presented Team and Champion Team of the year is a great honour and we hope we can do it again next year," he added
