Winton Motor Raceway
Standout Drive From Brighty
No other V8 Supercar driver stood a chance against Jason Bright and his Team BOC Commodore at Winton Motor Raceway today.
Emerging fifteenth after pitting on lap 26, Bright passed Jonathan Webb, Mark Winterbottom, Craig Lowndes, Tim Slade, Rick Kelly, Lee Holdsworth, Greg Murphy and Shane Van Gisbergen to sit fourth with 15 laps to go.
The 15-second gap to the leaders seemed insurmountable but, unbelievably, Brighty reeled them in at two-seconds-a-lap, passing Michael Caruso, Garth Tander and finally Jamie Whincup to claim his second win of the year.
He shared the top step of the podium with teammate Jason Richards, who is currently on the sidelines due to his on-going battle with cancer.
The next round of the V8 Supercars is at Hidden Valley, Darwin, from June 17-19.
"We're still coming on strong and improving all the time. I think we can finish the year a lot stronger than we started but Jamie Whincup has got a big head-start and doesn't finish outside the top two very often.
"BJR is one of the smallest teams in pit lane and one of the closest. JR and I were improving all last year and working really well together. We get on really well and I was convinced we were going to be standing on the podium together a few times this year.
"If he was racing he would definitely be up here with me. He's the fiercest competitor I've ever worked with and he's still very present at the team, even though he's not there full time. We just want to see him better and back out there."
"I've never seen anything like it. I've never seen a car so fast on old tyres; you just don't see it.
"It's very emotional. We're buddies and seeing him do so well… I'm very emotional these days anyway but that was beautiful."
