Andy Booth Completes Successful V8 Supercar Test

Dual NZV8 champion Andy Booth has successfully completed his first V8 Supercar test for Tasman Motorsport.

Booth, who drives a Holden for Tasman in the NZV8 series, completed 10 laps of the Winton Motor Raceway circuit in north-east Victoria in fellow Kiwi Greg Murphy's #51 VE Commodore.

It was the first time 32-year-old Booth had driven a V8 Supercar.

"Until yesterday I hadn't even sat in a V8 Supercar, let alone driven one in anger," Booth said.

"The day wasn't about pushing hard, more becoming comfortable in the car and experiencing what V8 Supercars are all about.

"The V8 Supercar wasn't too surprising; they are obviously more powerful and responsive than what I am used to and they do everything the NZV8s don't - they are a nicely refined race car in comparison.

"If anything was surprising, it was that they require a fairly similar driving style."

Booth said he quickly became comfortable in Murphy's car.

"In the short spurt out of pit lane to the first corner I felt comfortable, the car just felt right."

Tasman Motorsport managing director Kevin Murphy said he was pleased with Booth's performance.

"Andy was smooth as we expected, made no mistakes and did a terrific job. We'd like to give him more of an opportunity and we'll be keeping a close eye on him," Murphy said.

"This is a further strengthening of our on-going association with Andy's NZV8 team where we also intend to provide engineering race assistance in the future."

The next round of the V8 Supercar Series, round four, takes place at Winton on 18-20 May.
