TOUGH IN TASSIE FOR WPS RACING

WPS Racing has spent the bulk of today's two hour practice session at Tasmania's Ferodo Triple Challenge trying to develop a competitive race package towards the weekend.

Even some of the traditional heavyweights of the V8 Supercar Series had trouble adjusting to the Symmons Plains layout and very little separates the entire 34 car field leading into tomorrow's qualifying session.

The quest to ensure optimum handling characteristics for the three race assignment meant the crew was kept extremely busy working on the #48 Team Australia car and the #8 Wright Patton Shakespeare supported entry.

In today's rain affected session, David Besnard managed one final flying lap to elevate himself into 26th position while Craig Baird was forced to settle into 31st spot.

Perseverance and patience will become the order of the day for both drivers as they knuckle down to the 20 minute qualifying task ahead of them tomorrow morning.

Then it's game on in their quest for valuable championship points during race one where each has the opportunity to continue their climb up the leader board.

Holden's Steven Richards and Rick Kelly were joined by Ford driver Craig Lowndes at the top of the timesheets with Jason Bright and Garth Tander completing the top five.
