"SUPER-STRONG PACE" FOR REINDLER

Racing between championship protagonists James Courtney and Jamie Whincup was no issue for Fair Dinkum Shed Racing's Karl Reindler today; he was quicker than both of them.

After a problematic qualifying session Reindler took a gamble on strategy, running regular-compound tyres instead of the softs, and finished the race 14th.

It could have been better had he started higher up, however, with his late-race speed proving consistently faster than the ten cars in front of him. His fastest lap of the race, a 52.2113, was also comfortably faster than the championship leaders, who he was keeping pace with during the last stint.

V8 Supercars will be in action again next weekend at Sandown.

Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing "It was a great result! I was told we were quicker than the ten cars in front of us so had we started further up it could have been another top ten for us quite comfortably.

"We had a problem in qualifying; there was an oil line that collapsed so we missed the last half and, in the wet, people just get quicker and quicker. We could have been a fair bit higher.

"We were one of only three cars to go onto hard tyres so trying to hold my ground in that stint was quite difficult when everyone was on softs. We got the tyre pressures slightly wrong so they overheated quickly and caused some balance issues but we got onto the softs at the second pitstop and the pace was super-strong after that. I was only two-tenths off the quickest lap of the race.

"Courtney was about a dozen car lengths in front of me after the last pit stop but I caught up to him. There was an opportunity for me to pass but I was mindful of his championship situation and didn't want to make a desperate move. I was quite content that I could stay with him."
