TeamVodafone finish in top ten of Sydney 500 practice
TeamVodafone's Craig Lowndes recorded the fourth quickest time in today's practice of the Sydney 500 while teammate Jamie Whincup was seventh.
The team spent the majority of the two practice sessions focusing on a good race package to ensure both Commodores are performing at their peak for this weekend's 250km races.
Lowndes, who posted a 1:28.6010sec lap, was buoyed by today's result and said he was feeling confident ahead of tomorrow.
"It was a great day today and we had a much better finish in comparison to last year. We're still working on the car set-up but it's definitely given me confidence for tomorrow," Lowndes stated.
"I'm really encouraged by the cars speed knowing we've been focusing on a race set-up.
"We will look over the data tonight and make some changes to the car and hopefully improve it for tomorrow," he added.
Whincup, who ran on his green tyres early, dominated most of the second session but fell six places in the last minute.
Despite today's result, Defending V8 Supercar Champion Whincup said he was focused on tomorrow's race.
"The car felt good today. We worked hard on a race set-up knowing we have a long 250km race on each day," Whincup said.
"We showed our hand early by putting our new tyres on with 11 minutes to go and other cars took advantage of the track getting quicker towards the end.
"The car is not really a fast qualifying car but that doesn't really worry me. My main focus is the race and I'm feeling good about it, I'm just going to try and get up there in qualifying.
Qualifying will kick-off at 10.25am tomorrow, followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 11.35am and Race 25 (74 laps) at 2.35 EST.
