PERKINS FAILS TO FINISH FINAL RACE IN SYDNEY

James Courtney won today's race at the Sydney Telstra 500 ahead of Michael Caruso and Mark Winterbottom, making it three Sydney-born drivers on the podium of the first ever Sydney street race, which drew 184,856 over three days.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore:
QUESTION: This has proved to be a tough weekend with a very high rate of attrition. Has it proved to be even tougher than you expected?
"Yeah, it was disappointing," said Jack Perkins.
"We were just cruising around today because we wanted to finish.
"Unfortunately we may have damaged the steering rack in yesterday's crash. It was just too unsafe to drive around, the steering wheel was moving around and it's just a shame.
"We were going pretty well. I was righ behind Todd (Kelly) and those guys ended up being in a reasonable position before they ended up falling out as well.
"It was just a shame to end the year like that. We really wanted two good finishes, but at the end of the day it is a real credit to the team for putting me in a good car all year."
QUESTION: You have been a big part of all the effort that has gone into the team this year. You will not be at Kelly Racing next year, but is it good to look back on being a part of the first season for Kelly Racing?
"Yeah, look I can't thank Todd, Rick, John (Kelly) and Patrick (Ricci) and everyone involved enough for giving me the opportunity I have had this year.
"It has been fantastic to be a team-mate to Todd and Rick in the first year of Kelly Racing.
"I was there at 3 o'clock in the morning stickering the truck before the first round and I have been through the whole phase, thick and thin, with the guys.
"Again, I can't be thankful enough to them and also to our sponsors, Dodo and BET 247, and I'm looking forward to again turning the page over and seeing what presents itself for next year."
