JUDY SPENCE AND DAWN CRICHLOW FEEL INDY SPEED IN V8 RIDES
Judy Spence, Queensland Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport, and Gold Coast City Councillor Dawn Crichlow OAM have felt the speed of the Surfers Paradise street circuit first hand today.
The pair went for a ride in the 640-horsepower V8 machine of Team Australia sponsor Wright Patton Shakespeare Financial Group at the Nikon Indy 300 this morning, giving the two a unique view of the 4.498km/2.795 mile temporary street circuit.
V8 Supercar driver Steve Owen was on hand to pilot the pair at speeds of up to 260km/h in the WPS V8 ride car and both were very exicted about the opportunity to experience the circuit just as the IndyCar Series and V8 Supercar drivers do at this year's Nikon Indy 300.
"It was great to have such an exciting ride around this fabulous circuit, right next to the beach here at Surfers Paradise," said Spence.
"My thanks go to the team at WPS and Team Australia for this great opportunity. My best wishes go to all the V8 Supercar and IndyCar drivers, especially Team Australia, and I am sure we are in for a fantastic Nikon Indy 300 this weekend."
For Spence, it was her second ride in a roaring V8 around the Gold Coast circuit, but Crichlow was a V8 debutant this morning.
"That was just so, so fast and it was a great experience," said Crichlow.
"This is a fantastic circuit but at those speeds I didn't get a chance to see the ocean and the scenery.
"The speeds are so high. The skills of these professional drivers are just amazing."
Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia IndyCar driver Will Power will shot for his third-straight pole position at the Nikon Indy 300 later today, after setting the fastest time in both practice sessions held yesterday.
