FROSTY MOVES UP THE ORDER IN INDY OPENER

Larkham -- Orrcon Racing's Mark Winterbottom put in a mature attitude during the opening 31-lap journey in the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge as a part of the Lexmark Indy 300 carnival on the Gold Coast today.

Following a disappointing qualifying session yesterday Winterbottom began the race from the final row of the 32-car grid but quickly moved up the order.

While Winterbottom was on the charge during the opening few laps moving up six positions in the opening two laps his Larkham -- Orrcon Racing team-mate Jason Bargwanna wasn't so fortunate and was forced to the pit area with gear selection problems.

After the crew replaced the gear selector on Bargwanna's Orrcon Racing Falcon replaced he returned to the circuit a lap down on the leaders.

As the race continued Winterbottom to push on and was just outside the top 20 with ten laps remaining and eventually finished 21st, ten positions ahead of his starting position.

With a 12 laps remaining Bargwanna encountered an overheating engine and was eventually forced into a premature retirement eight laps shy of the finish.

Today's race was won by Greg Murphy ahead of Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife.

The round will be highlighted with a pair of 22-lap races around the 4.47km street circuit tomorrow.
