Sunshine Coast Local Fills In For Missing A1GP Cars

Queensland Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves, has headed a task force to create what will be an amazing celebration of Australian Motorsport at the Gold Coast Nikon SuperGP this weekend following the news of the A1GP no show. Bowden's Own Premium Car Care has joined forces with the Nikon SuperGP and will be supplying 10 of the proposed 12 historic racing cars to be on display and running around the track in a spirited demonstration.

Bowden's Own Premium Car Care has come together with some of Australia's motorsport greats to mark the next phase of one of the world's most spectacular motorsport festivals. The Bowden family owns Australia's greatest private collection of muscle, racing and touring cars. They will send ten of their most famous Championship and former Bathurst winning racing cars from their headquarters in Buderim to the Nikon SuperGP pits, previously reserved for the A1GP cars. Minister Reeves said we need to put the A1GP situation behind us, re-group and put on the best show possible for the fans and television viewers. "In a very short period of time we have managed to secure some of the greatest names and cars in Australian motorsport history to compete on the streets of the Gold Coast next weekend. With some of these legendary cars and the magical V8 Supercars we have an amazing celebration of Australian motorsport." Minister Reeves said.

The ten cars that will be put on the back of a transporter and driven down to Surfers Paradise this week are Allan Moffat's '69 Mustang and '71 GTHO Phase 3, Beechey's '70 HT GTS 350 Monaro, Geoghegan's '71 GTHO Super Falcon, Peter Brock's '78 A9X and VL Commodore, Kevin Bartlett's '79 Camaro, Dick Johnson's '81 Tru Blu XD Falcon and '84 Greens Tuf XE Falcon, and Jim Richards '85 JPS 635 BMW. Dan Bowden, owner of Bowden's Own Premium Car Care said as a proud Australian and a motorsport fanatic, he was delighted his family and company could provide assistance and support such a great motor racing event in their home state. "This is the biggest local event on the motor racing calendar and, as a Queensland owned motor industry company, we are thrilled that we can play a part in ensuring the Nikon SuperGP upholds it's status as an entertaining and fun-filled event as it always has been." Dan said.

Some of the great names that will be making a special guest appearance and driving these racing legends around the Surfers Paradise track include Dick Johnson, Kevin Bartlett, John French, Glenn Seton and Colin Bond with more to be announced in the coming days. "To have names like Johnson, Bartlett, Seton and Bond sitting in pit lane beside modern day heroes like Whincup, Tander, Lowndes and Ingall is going to be fantastic and more than a suitable replacement for the former category." Minister Reeves said.

The ten Bowden's Own cars that will be taken to Gold Coast this week luckily were in complete working order due to a recent event held at the Bowden's Own headquarters where close to 30 of their cars were started up for 50 motor racing history fans in a technical tour of their collection. "We were able to work with the Minister and event organizers to pull this all together at such short notice only due to the fact we held our first Sound Tour event only a couple weeks ago where several of our mechanics worked day and night to get all the cars running smoothly. If it wasn't for that event, I am not sure if we would have been able to get the cars ready in time to run around the track at close to race speeds." Dan said.

The Australian Legends category will be on track all four days of the event that will be headed by event 11 of the V8 Supercar Series and also includes the Australian Mini Challenge, the Australian Formula Ford Championship and Aussie Race Cars.
