RICHO DRIVES SBR FALCON

Castrol FPR Falcon driver, Steve Richards, yesterday joined SBR's test day at Queensland Raceway where he sampled its V8 Supercar FG.

Richo got two six-lap stints in the IRWIN Tools Falcon, which he described as very different in set-up to his own FPR car.

The test was the latest instalment in a programme to pool data and enhance each others' competitiveness. It follows similar experiments with Shane van Gisbergen and Mark Winterbottom earlier this year.

Although yesterday was a useful transfer of information, the lessons will take time to implement as the two operations find the optimum common ground.

"You can see there's some DNA from both teams in terms of the way things are done. There are other things that are very different, especially in the way the car handles.

"You can feel differences but lots of them can be related to the character of the set-up; like SBR has a very hard brake pedal; FPR doesn't; SBR has different anti-roll bar settings to FPR etc...

"Being so open about trade secrets is a bit of an odd feeling; it's been the same when they've come to us though. There's total transparency; we're poring over all their IP and any questions are always answered. We were able to literally have a really good look at their cars and get an idea of how they operate."
